Dr. Sam Helwany is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and is the author of a recent book on “Applied Soil Mechanics with Abaqus Applications.”  His expertise is in the area of geotechnical engineering, soil-structure interaction, including Geosynthetic-Reinforced Soil (GRS) structures under static and seismic loading conditions.  Dr. Helwany has worked on a number of major geotechnical engineering projects.  His special expertise is in full-scale tests and finite element analysis of earth structures.  He has published extensively in the areas of geosynthetics and soil-structure interaction, including that of GRS structures.
